Meet the Team

Dermot Breen:Head Llama and Guide.

Dermot founded Strider Llamas after spending a long time working out how to best combine his unique passions, talents and interests. Dermot has over thirty years of outdoor experience. He was 10 years old when he first slept outdoors, under a tree, in a neighbours garden after watching Last of the Mohicans! Fortunately things have never been the same since.

He has an elite forces military background, a qualification in rural resource management and training in environmental interpretation. He has previously worked in Countryside Management as a Ranger and also in the Outdoor Retailing industry.

Dermot is an avid Backpacker and an enthusiast of ultralite backpacking techniques. He participates regularly in the TGO Challenge, which is a world class backpacking event held in Scotland. He walks extensively in the UK and Overseas, after trekking in Canada he can confirm that bears do pooh in the woods.

Dermot holds current first aid and NGB endorsed qualifications as an outdoor leader. STRIDER Llamas are members of the British Llama Society, Institute of Outdoor Learning and British Mountaineering Council.

We are the STRIDER Llamas and we live in Mrs Ps' very special orchard and field with Dermots Chickens  and one of the few remaining wild Bee colonies in the area. Our orchard is surrounded by tasty Devon hedges and our grass has not had any synthetic fertiliser put on it in living memory. Who knows - we may be some of the first organic Llamas in the country!

Fyn

I am the oldest llama in the group and have the biggest ears. Favorite activities include eating and wrestling with my buddy Dan. I also enjoy darts and skittles.

 Dan

The intellectual of the group and a brave senstive soul. I lead the group when we go out walking. I've recently patented the Llama apple eating technique and Llama pogo-ing. I like wrestling with my friend Fyn, reading  Bookchin's Ecology of Freedom and humming the 1812 overture.

Merry

I am the prettiest boy in the group and enjoy being groomed, going for walks and keeping an eye on Dermots chickens. I love Merengue music, eating carrots, Argentine Tango and Mrs Ps' hanging apple buckets, she uses when it's harvest time. We help ourselves when she's not looking.

 Pippin

I am the youngest in our group and very cheeky. I like hanging out with my brother Merry, listening to crazy Mexican Cumbia tunes, going for walks, camping and scrumping apples from Mrs Ps' orchard. I want to be a Packing Llama when I'm a big boy.

Coming to live with Derm and his partner Fran is the best thing thats happened to me. I'm a outdoor rugged dog and get to have lots of adventures on the moors. I'm the Llama team long range recon unit and love camping, swimming and collecting big sticks for the camp fire. In my spare time I'm trying to teach the Llamas how to play stick, may be they will get the hang of it one day!
